Dichroic and Glas Filter
Architects, object designers, façade planners, event technicians, and artists – all have something in common: they like to use dichroic glass to color light in their work. Dichroic glass changes color when exposed to a light source. After all, the Greek word “dichroic” means two-colored.
Dichroic filters are also used in event technology. These filters are permeable to certain wavelength ranges, while others are reflected by the filters. This means that a different color is visible depending on the viewing angle.
Dichroic glass filters are used at concerts, theater performances, or in clubs, for example, to color the light from spotlights, scanners, or PAR cans and thus create a special lighting mood that matches the event. Dichroic filters usually consist of around twenty to fifty extremely thin layers of borosilicate applied to a glass body. These filters allow a working temperature of up to 400° C. For this heat protection to last, the layers must be applied very precisely and homogeneously to the glass. These dichroic filters can therefore also be used inside a headlight.
